This area has earned Silver Level certification through the Sustainable SITES Initiative, making it the first project in Arkansas to receive this level of recognition. As the first of the Scottish Rite’s philosophical degrees, the Grand Pontiff emphasizes spiritual insight, moral purity, and the responsibility of every Mason to help build a better future. Brother Eubanks will explore the degree’s rich symbolism, including its connection to the vision of the New Jerusalem and the meaningful lessons it imparts for daily life and Masonic service..

Presentation by Brother Roger Eubanks

The 18th degree, Knight Rose Croix, is a philosophical and spiritual degree centered on renewal, moral transformation, and the triumph of truth, faith, hope, and charity. As part of the Chapter of Rose Croix, it encourages the search for deeper light and a life guided by love of God and love of humanity. It is often associated with a two-sided black-and-white apron and cordon, and a jewel bearing the rose cross, pelican, eagle, and crown.

The 17th degree, Knight of the East and West, is a philosophical degree focused on the transition from old to new, the pursuit of truth, and loyalty to God. As part of the Chapter of Rose Croix, it emphasizes tolerance and teaches that governments not founded on righteousness will ultimately fall. It is often associated with a black-and-white sash, a yellow apron, and a heptagonal jewel.

The Rose Croix Funeral

The Rose Croix funeral ceremony is a solemn observance honoring a departed Knight Rose Croix and affirming the degree’s teachings of immortality, charity, and devotion to God. Rooted in the Chapter of Rose Croix, it emphasizes remembrance, fraternal duty, and the hope of spiritual renewal beyond death. It is traditionally associated with the order and jewel of the grade, and with burial in the collar of a Knight Rose Croix.

19th Degree – Grand Pontiff

The 19th degree, Grand Pontiff, is a philosophical degree focused on spiritual insight, moral purity, and the duty to help build a better future. As the first degree of the philosophical series, it draws on the vision of the New Jerusalem and teaches that one’s actions should serve as a bridge between the present and what is to come. It is often associated with a blue fillet with twelve stars, a crimson-and-white cordon, a breastplate recalling the High Priest of Israel, and a two-sided gold jewel bearing the Hebrew aleph and tau.

The 20th degree, Master of the Symbolic Lodge, is a philosophical degree focused on truth, justice, and toleration as guiding principles for life, conduct, and conversation. As part of the Council of Kadosh series, it teaches the importance of dignity, fairness, and deliberate judgment, urging the Mason to live in a way that honors the fraternity at all times. It is often associated with blue-and-gold symbolism, nine lights, and the three columns of Truth, Justice, and Toleration.

Scottish Rite Reunion 2026

The yearly Scottish Rite Reunion for the valley of Fayetteville, Orient of Arkansas was held on June 19 and 20.

The Valley of Fayetteville’s Scottish Rite Reunion is a multi-day event where Master Masons receive a series of Scottish Rite degrees, through dramatic presentations and educational instruction. More than simply a degree conferral, a Reunion is a time of fellowship, learning, and personal reflection, offering candidates and members an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the moral, philosophical, and spiritual teachings of Freemasonry while strengthening the bonds of brotherhood within the Rite.
